Denver squeaks by Wichita, 6-4Denver Coliseum Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Denver Cutthroats and the Wichita Thunder was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Denver emerged with a 6-4 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Michael Schumacher at 6:55 of the third period. Schumacher had a great game for the Cutthroats, netting two goals. Denver relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Garrett Bembridge, A.J. Gale and Troy Schwab took 15 of the team's 27 shots. Denver additionally got points from Gale, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Bembridge, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Denver also got a goal from Jean-Philipp Chabot as well. More assists for Denver came via Aaron MacKenzie, who had two and Robin Soudek, Vincent Arseneau, Michael Trebish, and Cam Reid, who each chipped in one. With 34 shots on target during the contest, Wichita exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Thunder were helped by Jason Wilson, who grabbed two goals. Wilson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. Wichita had gained a power play chance when TJ Fox was whistled for hooking. Jon Booras assisted on the tally. Wilson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 7:23 left in the second period. The Thunder had gotten the advantage when the Cutthroats' Gale was sent off for hooking. Mike Wilson picked up the assist. Wichita also got points from Andrew Martens, who also had one goal and one assist. Matt Robinson also scored for Wichita. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jesse Dudas, who had two and Jared Walker and Burke Gallimore, who contributed one a piece. Kent Patterson made 30 saves for Denver on 34 shots. The Cutthroats incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Wichita's Torrie Jung stopped 21 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Thunder incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
