Jake Hendrickson scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Wichita Thunder picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Allen Americans. The shootout featured 14 attempts between both teams. Allen got a shootout goal from Kale Kerbashian. Wichita's other shootout goal was scored by Jon Booras.The Thunder came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wichita trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Americans' Alex Lavoie at 8:29 in the second period. The Thunder knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Tyler Ludwig at 17:05 in the third period. Wichita was often in penalty trouble, totaling 16 minors and three majors for 47 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. Wichita had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. The Thunder's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 11 shots. Wichita was helped by Matt Summers, who registered one goal and one assist. Summers scored on the power play 3:26 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Thunder had gained a power play chance when Darryl Bootland was whistled for fighting. Mike Wilson picked up the assist. Wichita also got points from Wilson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Tyler Hostetter, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Wichita came via Burke Gallimore and Booras, who each chipped in one. Allen forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and four majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. Rouleau scored on the power play 6:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Allen had gotten the advantage when the Thunder's Summers was sent off for holding. Jarret Lukin provided the assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Jamie Schaafsma and Jonathan Lessard, who contributed one a piece. Wichita's Taylor Nelson stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Bryan Pitton recorded 23 saves for the Americans.
