Ottawa West Golden Knights' comeback falls short, Gatineau Mustangs wins 5-3

Gatineau Mustangs came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Ottawa West Golden Knights, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Gatineau Mustangs led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Gatineau Mustangs' Jérémie Roy's scored at 7:23 in the second period to put Gatineau Mustangs up 4-1.

Gatineau Mustangs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa West Golden Knights to score on any of its five power plays.

Gatineau Mustangs was helped by Dominik Robinson, who had one goal and one assist. Robinson scored 9:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Gatineau Mustangs. Simon Damphousse assisted on the tally. Gatineau Mustangs also got points from Mikael Gervais, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Roy, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Gatineau Mustangs included Vincent Proulx and Benoît Lavigne, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Gatineau Mustangs were Vincent Lauzon, Jérémie Bonneville, and Alexandre Grandmaitre, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa West Golden Knights forced Gatineau Mustangs goalie Jean-Philippe Giroux to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Ottawa West Golden Knights was helped by Marc Shanks, who registered one goal. Shanks scored 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Phil Edgar picked up the assist. Ottawa West Golden Knights additionally got points from Zac Rodier, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jeff Gottzman, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Ottawa West Golden Knights received assists from Dave Kilrea and Eric Wintjes, who contributed one a piece.
