Shawville Pontiacs falls to Stittsville Royals in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Stittsville Royals pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over Shawville Pontiacs on a clutch goal by derek verrin.

Stittsville Royals almost relinquished a three-score lead. Stittsville Royals made it 4-1 on a goal by Steve Genier at 1:47 in the second period. Shawville Pontiacs pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Isak Savard at 32 seconds in the third period.

Verrin had two goals and one assist to lead Stittsville Royals. Verrin scored the first of his two goals at 8:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stittsville Royals. Alex Hulford picked up the assist. verrin's next tally made the score 5-4 Stittsville Royals with 18:42 left in overtime. Jordan Cale assisted on the tally.

Stittsville Royals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Shawville Pontiacs was unable to stop Stittsville Royals from sending pucks towards the net, and Stittsville Royals eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Stittsville Royals additionally got points from Genier, who also registered one goal and one assist and Kevin Groulx, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Stittsville Royals also got a goal from Alex Perrault as well. More assists for Stittsville Royals came via Jermy Nichols, who had one and Blake Martyniuk, who had two.

Shawville Pontiacs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stittsville Royals to score on any of its four power plays. Shawville Pontiacs forced Stittsville Royals goalie Patrick Kealey to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The defensemen of Shawville Pontiacs were also effective in Stittsville Royals' zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for Shawville Pontiacs included Anthony Rea, Dylan Scott, and Mathew Labrosse, who each put in one. In addition, Shawville Pontiacs received assists from Lucas Driscoll-McKinnon, who had two, Guillaume Coovi-Sirois, who had three, and Julian Dumont, Danick Genest, and Alexandre Larocque, who each chipped in one.

Kealey recorded 33 saves for Stittsville Royals. Stittsville Royals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Danick Boisvert made 33 saves for Shawville Pontiacs on 38 shots. Shawville Pontiacs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
