Gatineau Mustangs vanquishes Ottawa Canadians in shootout, 5-4 (4-3 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Gatineau Mustangs defeated Ottawa Canadians in a shootout 5-4 (4-3 SO).

The shootout lasted for 26 attempts between the teams. Ottawa Canadians' shootout goals were scored by Stephen Fullum, Jamie Molinski, and Tom Kesheshian. In addition to the clincher, Gatineau Mustangs got shootout goals from Bruno Leblanc, Benoît Lavigne, and Raphael Grandmaison.

Gatineau Mustangs got the win on the strength of a great game by Joey Mazerolle, who had two goals and one assist. Mazerolle scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Gatineau Mustangs. Gatineau Mustangs had gotten the advantage when Ottawa Canadians' Dominic Plaschy was sent off for delay of game. Mazerolle's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 19:03 left in the third period. Vincent Proulx picked up the assist.

Ottawa Canadians was unable to stop Gatineau Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and Gatineau Mustangs eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

Gatineau Mustangs additionally got points from Dominik Robinson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Maxime Belley also scored for Gatineau Mustangs. More assists for Gatineau Mustangs came via Jacob Osborne and Simon Damphousse, who contributed one a piece.

Ottawa Canadians was led by Casey Doner, who tallied two goals and two assists. Doner scored the first of his two goals short handed at 7:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ottawa Canadians found itself down a man on Josh Hartley's roughing. Doner's next tally short handed made the score 2-2 with 5:21 left in the first period. Ottawa Canadians had gained a power play chance when Osborne was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Fullum provided the assist. Ottawa Canadians also got points from Fullum, who also had one goal and one assist. Ottawa Canadians also got a goal from Rob Darnowski as well. In addition, Ottawa Canadians received assists from Chad Millett, Scott MciLroy, and Kesheshian, who each chipped in one.

Jean-Philippe Giroux made 25 saves for Gatineau Mustangs on 29 shots. Gatineau Mustangs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Plaschy recorded 43 saves for Ottawa Canadians. Ottawa Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
