Almonte Thunder beats Renfrew Timberwolves 4-3 after comeback scare

Almonte Thunder survived a determined comeback attempt by Renfrew Timberwolves on the way to a 4-3 win.

Almonte Thunder took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Renfrew Timberwolves storm back on a Tanner Smith goal 19:17 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Almonte Thunder was paced on offense by Liam Killeen and Luke Martin, who combined for five points. Killeen registered one goal and two assists and Martin also added two goals.

Almonte Thunder racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with four minors and four majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Almonte Thunder had been spending in the box. Almonte Thunder forced Renfrew Timberwolves' goalies to work in net, taking 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Brayden St-Germain made 16 stops and Matt Schroeder made 14.

Almonte Thunder also got a goal from Kane Abbis-Mills as well. More assists for Almonte Thunder came via Andrew Rowbotham, who had three and Cameron Cornwall and Kyle Killeen, who each chipped in one.

The Renfrew Timberwolves penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and five majors for 47 minutes in penalty time. Renfrew Timberwolves surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game.

Kurtis Leclaire also scored for Renfrew Timberwolves. In addition, Renfrew Timberwolves received assists from Scott Conroy, who had two and Colin Bradbury and Troy Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

Richard Barr rejected 21 shots on goal for Almonte Thunder. Almonte Thunder registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Barr, Haydon Devlin, Rowbotham, and Abbis-Mills were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Renfrew Timberwolves registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For Renfrew Timberwolves, Teddy Suckow, Sean Kyte, Conroy, Leclaire, and Alex Campbell were ejected from the contest.
