Gatineau Mustangs vanquishes Ottawa West Golden Knights in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Gatineau Mustangs defeated Ottawa West Golden Knights in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Gatineau Mustangs came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Gatineau Mustangs trailed 3-1 after a goal by Ottawa West Golden Knights' Chris Deschamps at 9:11 in the second period. Gatineau Mustangs knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Connor Gavan-Coady at 8:30 in the third period.

Benoît Lavigne had a great game for Gatineau Mustangs, netting two goals. Lavigne found the back of the net 17:27 into the second period to make the score 3-3 and again while on the power play 1:37 into the third to make the score 4-3 Gatineau Mustangs.

Ottawa West Golden Knights was unable to stop Gatineau Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and Gatineau Mustangs eventually piled up 54 shots on goal.

Gatineau Mustangs additionally got points from Vincent Lauzon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cédric Parker also scored for Gatineau Mustangs. In addition, Gatineau Mustangs received assists from Jérémie Bonneville, who had two and Raphael Grandmaison, Mikael Gervais, Gabriel Tourangeau, and Simon Damphousse, who each chipped in one.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Ottawa West Golden Knights was led by Justin Lafleur, who had one goal and two assists. Lafleur scored 1:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa West Golden Knights. Brandon Lee picked up the assist. Ottawa West Golden Knights also got a goal from Ethan Allard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa West Golden Knights were Marc Shanks, who had one and Dave Kilrea, who had three.

Jean-Philippe Giroux recorded 18 saves for Gatineau Mustangs. Gatineau Mustangs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ottawa West Golden Knights' Eric Plumadore stopped 49 shots out of the 53 that he faced. Ottawa West Golden Knights incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Ottawa West Golden Knights, Allard was ejected from the game.
