Stittsville Royals beats Perth Blue Wings 4-3 after comeback scare

Stittsville Royals survived a determined comeback attempt by Perth Blue Wings on the way to a 4-3 win.

Stittsville Royals made the score 4-2 on a goal by Eric Malloy at 1:31 in the third period, and Perth Blue Wings got as close as 4-3 when Steven Plescia scored 12:54 into the third period.

Jermy Nichols had two goals to lead Stittsville Royals to victory. Nichols scored at 4:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 17:57 into the second to make the score 3-2 Stittsville Royals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The defensemen of Stittsville Royals were also effective in Perth Blue Wings' zone, and came away with three goals.

Stittsville Royals also got points from Malloy, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Stittsville Royals also got a goal from Matt Veaudry as well. More assists for Stittsville Royals came via Mitch Kerwin, who had two and Kyle Killeen, Kevin Groulx, and Blake Martyniuk, who contributed one a piece.

Perth Blue Wings stifled Stittsville Royals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Perth Blue Wings forced Stittsville Royals goalie Patrick Kealey to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Perth Blue Wings' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Perth Blue Wings was helped by Jimmy Pearson, who finished with one goal. Pearson scored on the power play 7:48 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Perth Blue Wings earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Cale was put in the box for interference. Alex Vala assisted on the tally. Andrew Davis also scored for Perth Blue Wings. In addition, Perth Blue Wings received assists from Blair Barr, who had two and Christian Bueti and Zac Rodier, who each chipped in one.

Patrick Kealey made 28 saves for Stittsville Royals on 31 shots. Stittsville Royals totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Stittsville Royals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Perrault was ejected from the game. Jeremy Wright recorded 25 saves for Perth Blue Wings. Perth Blue Wings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Perth Blue Wings, Vala was ejected from the game.
