Clarence Beavers shrugs off penalties, upends Stittsville Royals, 5-2

Stittsville Royals failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Clarence Beavers shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Clarence Beavers was led by Nick Draper, who grabbed one goal. Draper scored 19:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Clarence Beavers. Stéphane Routhier assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, Stittsville Royals was sparked by Steve Genier, who had two goals. Genier scored the first of his two goals at 14:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jake Oliver picked up the assist. Genier's next tally made the score 4-2 Clarence Beavers with 16:52 left in the third period. Ben Wade assisted on the tally.

Clarence Beavers made Stittsville Royals' goalies to work without much rest, taking 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Jason Shaw made seven stops and Patrick Kealey made 20. Clarence Beavers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.

Clarence Beavers also got points from Pier-Olivier Fournier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alexandre Charlebois also scored for Clarence Beavers. Other players who recorded assists for Clarence Beavers were Jean-François Lupien, who had two and Adam Lebel, Cédéric Crête, Jérémie Maisonneuve, Adam Baxter, and Nathaniel Quinn, who contributed one a piece.

Stittsville Royals forced Clarence Beavers goalie Ryan Mclaughlin to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The defensemen of Stittsville Royals were also effective in Clarence Beavers' zone, and came away with two goals.

In addition, Stittsville Royals received assists from Joey Laird and Robbie Clarkson, who each chipped in one.

Clarence Beavers' Mclaughlin stopped 41 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Clarence Beavers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Stittsville Royals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
