Mooretown vanquishes Amherstburg in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mooretown Flags defeated the Amherstburg Admirals in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Amherstburg got a shootout goal from Kyler Carter. Mooretown also got a shootout goal from McGregor Haddon.

The Flags overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mooretown fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Admirals' Jordan Luciw at 1:03 in the third period. The Flags tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by David Addley at 14:06 in the third period.

Amherstburg was unable to stop Mooretown from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flags eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Mooretown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Flags were helped by Brett Podgorski, who finished with one goal. Podgorski scored 19:22 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Austin Ainsworth assisted on the tally. Sam McCormack also scored for Mooretown. More assists for Mooretown came via Sam Jasmin, who had two and Spencer Bronzi and Haddon, who contributed one a piece.

The Admirals forced Mooretown goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Amherstburg struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Amherstburg also had goals scored by Tyler Lawrence and Steven Spada, who each put in one. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Zack Brown, Ryan Alexander, Blake Rutckyj, Brett Beattie, and Kasey Basile, who each chipped in one.

Johnson rejected 43 shots on goal for the Flags. Mooretown ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Flags, Ryan Lyle was ejected from the game. Klinton Kenney made 38 saves for the Admirals on 41 shots. Amherstburg registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
