Alvinston's comeback falls short, Dresden wins 5-3

The Dresden Kings, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Alvinston Flyers and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Dresden led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Kings' James Shelton's scored at 17:18 in the first period to put Dresden up 4-1.

In the losing effort, Alvinston was paced by Kole Keating, who finished with two goals. Keating scored the first of his two goals at 14:34 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Dresden. Tyler Kettler assisted on the tally. Keating's next tally made the score 4-3 Dresden with 3:18 left in the second period. Karsten Berg provided the assist.

The Kings were led by Jim McKinlay, who grabbed one goal and one assist. McKinlay scored on the power play 9:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden. Dresden had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Dylan Lightfoot got sent off for tripping. Dillon Liberty picked up the assist.

The Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Dresden also got points from Liberty, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dresden included Jeremy Griffore and Blake Padbury, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Jay Piett, who had two, Graham Smyth, who had three, and Andrew France, Kevin Ritzer, and Macks Holmes, who contributed one a piece.

Alvinston forced Dresden goalie Jamie Morreau to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Alvinston also got a goal from Chad Vaneyk as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Dylan Ryan, Troy Whitely, and Jake McPhail, who each chipped in one.

Morreau recorded 42 saves for the Kings. Dresden incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Alvinston took out Brett Avery after he had made 24 saves and installed Brad Jacklin in goal, where he finished with one save and the loss.
