Mooretown outlasts Alvinston, 3-2Brooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Jan 24, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Mooretown Flags and the Alvinston Flyers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mooretown emerged with a 3-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Ryan Lyle secured the win for the Flags with a goal in the third period. Mooretown was sparked by Lyle, who tallied one goal and one assist. Lyle scored 16:30 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mooretown. Dan Lumley picked up the assist. The Flags put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alvinston to score on any of its three power plays. Mooretown forced the Flyers goalie Brett Avery to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Mooretown also got points from Lumley, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brett Thompson also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Jordan McBeath, McGregor Haddon, and Sam Jasmin, who each chipped in one. Alvinston could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Flyers put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Alvinston's offense rang up 51 shots on the Flags' net. The Flyers were helped by Dylan Lightfoot, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lightfoot scored 13:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Joe Archer assisted on the tally. Alvinston additionally got points from Dan Warner, who also registered one goal and one assist. Steven Taylor made 49 saves for Mooretown on 51 shots. The Flags incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Avery recorded 28 saves for Alvinston.
