VanEyk, Warner lead Alvinston over Amherstburg, 6-3

Behind two goals from Zach VanEyk and one goal and one assist from Dan Warner, the Alvinston Flyers downed the Amherstburg Admirals 6-3.

VanEyk scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alvinston earned a power play opportunity when Brett Beattie was put in the box for hooking. Karsten Berg provided the assist. VanEyk's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Alvinston with 2:58 left in the first period. A slashing penalty on Zack Brown had put the Flyers on the power play. Clint Rose picked up the assist. Warner scored 3:26 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alvinston.

Alvinston also got points from Warner, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joe Archer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Kole Keating and Chad Vaneyk, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alvinston came via Jake ONeil and Brett Duncan, who contributed one a piece.

Amherstburg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Admirals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Amherstburg was led by Dan Matoski, who had two goals. Matoski scored the first of his two goals at 2:35 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Alvinston. Matoski's next tally made the score 4-3 Alvinston with 15:45 left in the second period. The Admirals had gained a power play chance when Warner was whistled for roughing. Kyler Carter assisted on the tally. Luke Gagnon also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Blake Rutckyj, who had one.

Alvinston's Brett Avery stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Flyers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-11 on the power play. For Alvinston, Duncan was ejected from the game. Amherstburg's starting goalie, Klinton Kenney, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Arren Romeril, who stopped five shots. The Admirals registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
