Daly nets hat trick, leads Dresden to 6-3 win over Mooretown

The Mooretown Flags could not stop the Dresden Kings' Derek Daly, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-3 win.

Daly notched his first tally 54 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 8:26 into the first and at 19:34 into the third.

Dresden forced Flags' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Steven Taylor made 12 stops and Brandon Johnson made 16. The Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Dresden averages 3.2 goals per contest. The Kings were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time.

Dresden additionally got points from Dillon Liberty, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points and Macks Holmes, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Dresden came via Dede Cato, who had five and James Shelton and Mike Myers, who contributed one a piece.

Mooretown got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Flags were helped by Brett Thompson, who tallied one goal. Thompson scored on the power play 13:42 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Dresden. Mooretown had gained a power play chance when Wade Esselman was whistled for fighting (instigator). Dan Hachey picked up the assist. Others who scored for Mooretown included Sam McCormack and Matt Brandon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Ryan Lyle, McGregor Haddon, and Dan Lumley, who each chipped in one.

Brent Paxton made 21 saves for Dresden on 24 shots. The Kings registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Dresden, Esselman was ejected from the game. The Flags incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mooretown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Haddon was ejected from the game.
