Lumley leads Mooretown over Wallaceburg, 7-4

Behind a great game by Dan Lumley, who had two goals and two assists, the Mooretown Flags defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 7-4.

Lumley scored at 3:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown and again while 6:27 into the third to make the score 6-4 Mooretown.

Mooretown stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flags surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Mooretown has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Mooretown also got points from Dan Hachey, who also registered one goal and one assist and McGregor Haddon, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Sam Jasmin also scored for Mooretown. More assists for Mooretown came via Joey Stock, who had one and Sam McCormack, who had two.

The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flags to score on any of their four power plays.

Wallaceburg was helped by Scott Lubbers, who tallied two goals and one assist. Lubbers scored the first of his two goals at 17:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Frank Saputo assisted on the tally. Lubbers' next tally made the score 5-4 Mooretown with 14:09 left in the third period. Justin Whitson provided the assist. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Whitson, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Jordan Eagen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Jeff Morey, who had one.

Mooretown's Steven Taylor stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Flags ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Mooretown, David Addley was ejected from the game. The Lakers took out Joel Sowinski after he had made 14 saves and installed Ben Vankessel in goal, where he finished with five saves and the loss. Wallaceburg totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Lakers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Evan Weidenback was ejected from the game.
