Alvinston stifles Mooretown's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Alvinston Flyers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Alvinston and clinched a 5-3 victory.

The Flyers led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Alvinston's Dan Warner's scored at 10:28 in the second period to put the Flyers up 5-2.

Sam Vokes was all over the ice for Alvinston, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Vokes scored the first of his two goals at 1:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Karsten Berg assisted on the tally. Vokes' next tally made the score 4-2 Alvinston with 10:22 left in the second period.

The Flyers made the Mooretown Flags' goaltenders to work between the pipes, getting 43 shots and forcing 38 saves. Brandon Johnson made 22 stops and Steven Taylor made 16.

Alvinston also got points from Troy Whitely, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Warner, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dylan Lightfoot, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Alvinston came via Jake ONeil, Joe Archer, and Chad Rainsberry, who contributed one a piece.

Mooretown put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alvinston to score on any of its five power plays. The defensemen of the Flags were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Mooretown was helped by Matt Brandon, who had one goal. Brandon scored on the power play 18:00 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Flags had gained a power play chance when Jake McPhail was whistled for hooking. Mooretown additionally got points from McGregor Haddon, who also registered one goal and one assist. Sam McCormack also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Clay Williams, who had one and Dan Lumley, who had two.

Brett Avery rejected 22 shots on goal for Alvinston. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mooretown incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Flags, Joey Stock was ejected from the game.
