Essex's McIntyre deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Alvinston

Behind a great game by Daniel McIntyre, who had two goals, the Essex 73s defeated the Alvinston Flyers, 5-2.

McIntyre's tallies came on the power play at 7:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 1:42 into the third to make the score 4-2 Essex.

Essex's penalty kill excelled, as the 73s gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:52 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Essex forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The 73s surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Essex kept Alvinston's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Avery made 38 saves on 43 shots.

Essex also had goals scored by Matthew Hebert, Scott Bromley, and Daniel Slipchuck, who scored one goal each. More assists for Essex came via Corey Beaulieu, Jordan Ryan, Tyler Scott, and Dylan Solecki, who contributed one a piece and Matthew Rosati and Alex Garon, who each chipped in two.

The Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Alvinston had been spending in the box. The Flyers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Alvinston averages 4.3 goals per game. The Flyers' offense rang up 39 shots on the 73s' net.

Alvinston was helped by Chad Vaneyk, who registered one goal. Vaneyk scored 1:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Zach VanEyk assisted on the tally. Alvinston also got a goal from Dylan Lightfoot as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Clint Rose, Tyler Kettler, and Dan Warner, who contributed one a piece.

Jacob Kment rejected 37 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Essex ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Solecki was ejected from the game. For the Flyers, Rose was ejected from the game.
