Blenheim survives Dresden comeback, wins 5-4

The Blenheim Blades survived a determined comeback attempt by the Dresden Kings on the way to a 5-4 win.

Blenheim made the score 5-0 on a goal by Kellen Kaniecki at 8:55 in the second period, and Dresden got as close as 5-4 when Macks Holmes scored 19:05 into the third period.

The Blades were led by Drew Marlatt, who registered one goal. Marlatt scored 4:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Blenheim. Cam Aitken provided the assist.

Blenheim kept the Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brent Paxton made 38 saves on 43 shots.

Blenheim also got points from Tyler Boughner, who also had one goal and one assist, Bryce Broad, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Kaniecki, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kirk McKillop also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Justin Rossignol, who had two and Ben Pataki APM, Zack Horvath, and Brayden Seliga, who contributed one a piece.

Dresden excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Dresden additionally got points from Dede Cato, who also finished with one goal and one assist and James Shelton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Kevin Ritzer as well. In addition, Dresden received assists from Jeff Vanrabaeys, who had two and Jeremy Griffore and Dillon Liberty, who each chipped in one.

The Blades' Dylan Vanderpol stopped 14 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Blenheim incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Kings totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Dresden, Wade Esselman was ejected from the game.
