Dresden uses early goal to top Wallaceburg, 4-2

Dillon Liberty scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Dresden Kings held off the challenges of the Wallaceburg Lakers in a tough 4-2 win.

Dresden took over the lead for good with a goal by Liberty at 12:55 in the first period. James Shelton picked up the assist.

Derek Daly had a great game for the Kings, netting two goals. Daly found the back of the net on the power play 14:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden and again while 13:13 into the third to make the score 3-1 Dresden.

Dresden kept Wallaceburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joel Sowinski made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Dresden also got points from Shelton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Dresden came via Jeff Vanrabaeys, Josh Clements, Owen Welch, Kevin Ritzer, and David Vergeer, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers forced the Kings goalie Brent Paxton to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Wallaceburg was helped by Frankie White, who finished with one goal. White scored on the power play 8:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dresden. The Lakers had gotten the advantage when Dresden's Shelton was sent off for roughing. DJ Sapone provided the assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Lucais Meyskens as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Justin Lindsay, who had two.

The Kings' Paxton stopped 42 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Dresden incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wallaceburg incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
