Huge game by Kettler boosts Alvinston over Wallaceburg, 8-3

The Alvinston Flyers' Tyler Kettler had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing four assists in his team's 8-3 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Kettler's tallies came at 5:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston and 1:30 into the third to make the score 4-2 Alvinston.

Alvinston surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Flyers average 4.5 goals per game. Alvinston's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Flyers finished with 36 penalty minutes.

Alvinston also got points from Zach VanEyk, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jake McPhail, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Chad Vaneyk, who had two and Dylan Lightfoot and Brett Duncan, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alvinston came via Sam MacGee, Clint Rose, Joe Archer, and Sebastian Ty, who contributed one a piece and Dan Warner and Karsten Berg, who each chipped in three.

Wallaceburg was led by Justin Whitson, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Whitson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 33 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Alvinston. Jeff Morey picked up the assist. Whitson's next tally on the power play made the score 8-3 Alvinston with 3:54 left in the third period. A miscellaneous penalty on Vaneyk had put the Lakers on the power play. Evan Weidenback provided the assist. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Weidenback, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Ryan Gruszka, who had three.

Brett Avery rejected 21 shots on goal for Alvinston. The Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Joel Sowinski made 17 saves for Wallaceburg on 25 shots. The Lakers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
