Mooretown vanquishes Dresden in shootout, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mooretown Flags defeated the Dresden Kings in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Mooretown saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Flags made the score 5-3 on a short handed goal by Sam Jasmin at 18:48 in the second period. Dresden evened things up at 5-5 on a short handed goal by James Shelton at 12:15 in the third period.

Mooretown made the Kings' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 37 shots and forcing 31 saves. Brent Paxton made 15 stops and Jamie Morreau made 16.

Mooretown also got points from McGregor Haddon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mooretown also had goals scored by Jordan McBeath and Brett Thompson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Ryan Lyle, Sam McCormack, Spencer Bronzi, Clay Williams, Brandon Layman, and Dan Lumley, who each chipped in one.

The Flags were unable to stop Dresden from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Dresden was helped by Macks Holmes, who grabbed two goals. Holmes scored the first of his two goals at 2:58 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dillon Liberty provided the assist. Holmes' next tally made the score 5-4 Mooretown with 18:31 left in the third period. Liberty assisted on the tally. Dresden additionally got points from Liberty, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Shelton, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dresden also got a goal from Derek Daly as well. More assists for Dresden came via Blake Padbury, who had one and Jeff Vanrabaeys and Dede Cato, who each chipped in two.

Steven Taylor made 37 saves for Mooretown on 42 shots. The Flags totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Mooretown, Ryan Jennings was ejected from the game. The Kings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
