Liberty's hat trick boosts Dresden over Blenheim, 5-3

Dillon Liberty lifted the Dresden Kings to a 5-3 victory with a hat trick against the Blenheim Blades.

Liberty notched his first tally 18:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 27 seconds into the third and at 19:43 into the third.

Dresden led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Kings' Mike Myers's scored on the power play at 4:49 in the second period to put Dresden up 3-0.

Team could not crack Blenheim's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Dresden additionally got points from James Shelton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Brent Paxton, who had two and Josh Clements, Andrew France, David Vergeer, and Braedon Nicholson, who contributed one a piece.

The the Blades penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Blenheim surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Kings were unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Blenheim eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Blades were led by Zack Horvath, who had two goals. Horvath scored the first of his two goals at 11:56 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Dresden. Jarrod Oliphant picked up the assist. Horvath's next tally made the score 4-3 Dresden with 3:20 left in the third period. Kirk McKillop provided the assist. Blenheim also got a goal from Bryce Broad as well. More assists for Blenheim came via Mackenzie Dick and Kellen Kaniecki, who each chipped in one.

Paxton rejected 30 shots on goal for Dresden. The Kings ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For Dresden, Dede Cato was ejected from the game. Blenheim's Eric Stewardson stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Blades registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Blenheim ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Drew Marlatt was ejected from the game.
