Wallaceburg outlasts Dresden, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wallaceburg Lakers escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Dresden Kings.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Justin Whitson at 18:23 of the third period.

Whitson was all over the ice for Wallaceburg, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Dresden power plays. Wallaceburg forced Dresden goalie Jamie Morreau to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Wallaceburg also got a goal from Justin Lindsay as well. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Lucais Meyskens and Frankie White, who each chipped in one and Ryan Gruszka and Scott Lubbers, who contributed two a piece.

The Lakers were unable to stop the Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Dresden eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Kings were helped by Derek Daly, who finished with one goal. Daly scored 13:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Andrew France provided the assist. James Shelton also scored for Dresden. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Graham Smyth, Dillon Liberty, and Jesse Allen, who each chipped in one.

Wallaceburg's Joel Sowinski stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Lakers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Morreau rejected 31 shots on goal for Dresden. The Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
