Alvinston wins tough contest against Essex, 4-3Essex Centre Sports Complex Tue, Dec 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alvinston Flyers gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Essex 73s. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Sam Vokes secured the win for Alvinston with a goal in the third period. The Flyers were paced by Vokes, who registered one goal. Vokes scored on the power play 3:10 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Alvinston. Alvinston had gained a power play chance when Philip Janikowski was whistled for slashing. Karsten Berg picked up the assist. Alvinston additionally got points from Tyler Kettler, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Joe Archer, who also had one goal and one assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Kole Keating as well. More assists for Alvinston came via Clint Rose, Troy Whitely, and Zach VanEyk, who each chipped in one. Essex was held below its usual level of production. The 73s average 5.4 goals per game. The Flyers were unable to stop Essex from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Others who scored for Essex included Matthew Rosati and Dallas Pereira, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Michel Popel, Tyler Scott, Colin DeLaet, and Dylan Solecki, who contributed one a piece. Brett Avery recorded 34 saves for Alvinston. The Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Essex's starting goalie, Jacob Kment, made eight saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Darien Ekblad, who stopped four shots. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
