Alvinston rolls over Dresden, 9-1

The Alvinston Flyers had a seven-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-1 win over the Dresden Kings.

Alvinston got the win thanks to a great game by Tyler Kettler, who had one goal and two assists. Kettler scored on the power play 1:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. The Flyers had gained a power play chance when David Vergeer was whistled for interference. Dan Warner provided the assist.

Alvinston's Brett Avery was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 47 saves and let only one puck past him. Avery certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.02 entering the contest.

The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dresden to score on any of its four power plays. Alvinston forced the Kings goalie Brent Paxton to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Alvinston averages 4.3 goals per contest.

Alvinston also got points from Joe Archer, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Dylan Lightfoot, who also had one goal and one assist, and Zach VanEyk, who also registered two goals and one assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Clint Rose, Sam Vokes, and Kole Keating, who each put in one. More assists for Alvinston came via Sam MacGee, Troy Whitely, Jeremy VanDeven, and Brett Duncan, who each chipped in one.

Dresden did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Kings average 3.1 goals per game. The Flyers were unable to stop Dresden from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Dresden struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Alvinston to score three power play goals on five chances.

The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alvinston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sebastian Ty was ejected from the game. The Kings' Paxton stopped 30 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Dresden incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Kings, Jeremy Griffore and Kevin Ritzer were ejected from the contest.
