Fontaine leads Wheatley over Dresden, 11-1

The Wheatley Sharks' Austin Fontaine had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing four assists in his team's 11-1 win over the Dresden Kings.

Fontaine got on the board by slotting home a goal 12:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wheatley. Jimmy Ciacelli picked up the assist. Fontaine dished an assist on Evan Makaric's goal that made the score 1-0 Wheatley at 9:06 into the first period. He then added assists on Scott Florence's goal at 17:54 into the second, on Eric Rivard's goal at 6:50 into the third, and on Frank Ciacelli's goal at 16:41 into the third.

Wheatley forced Dresden's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 28 saves. Brent Paxton made 24 stops and Jamie Morreau made four. The Sharks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Wheatley's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Sharks average 4.5 goals per contest. The defensemen of Wheatley were also effective in the Kings' zone, and came away with three goals. The Sharks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wheatley also got points from Austin Thompson, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Rivard, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Cale Phibbs as well. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Shawn Hope, who had two, Mike Reid, who had three, and Tyler Liboiron, Brett Babkirk, Brett Bowman, Lucas Raffoul, and Thomas Virban, who contributed one a piece.

Dresden's offense operated below it season average. The Kings average 3.2 goals per game. Dresden struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

The Kings were led by Braedon Nicholson, who scored the team's only goal. Nicholson scored 15:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wheatley. Blake Padbury provided the assist.

Everitt Omstead recorded 23 saves for Wheatley.
