Alvinston uses big games from Kettler and Lightfoot to down Wallaceburg, 8-5

Behind two goals from Tyler Kettler and one goal and two assists from Dylan Lightfoot, the Alvinston Flyers downed the Wallaceburg Lakers 8-5.

Kettler scored the first of his two goals at 5:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. Zach VanEyk picked up the assist. Kettler's next tally made the score 5-3 Alvinston with 13:34 left in the second period. Alvinston had taken the advantage when Wallaceburg's Ryan Gruszka got sent off for inciting an opponent. Dan Warner provided the assist. Lightfoot scored 11 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Alvinston. Warner assisted on the tally.

The Flyers' offense rang up 49 shots on the Lakers' net. Alvinston found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Flyers average 4.3 goals per contest.

Alvinston also got points from Lightfoot, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, VanEyk, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sam Vokes, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Alvinston included Jeremy VanDeven, Joe Archer, and Karsten Berg, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Sam MacGee, who had two and Jake ONeil, Dylan Ryan, and Brett Duncan, who each chipped in one.

Wallaceburg surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Lakers average 2.7 goals per game.

Wallaceburg was helped by Justin Whitson, who had two goals and one assist. Whitson scored the first of his two goals at 13:34 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Alvinston. Scott Lubbers provided the assist. Whitson's next tally made the score 5-5 with 5:00 left in the third period. Justin Lindsay assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Lubbers, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Jordan Riley also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Frank Saputo, Jacob Theoret, and Jordan Eagen, who contributed one a piece.

Alvinston's Brad Jacklin stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Flyers totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Alvinston, VanDeven and Kole Keating were ejected from the contest. Joel Sowinski rejected 41 shots on goal for the Lakers. Wallaceburg totaled 46 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-1 on the power play. Team's Ryan Chovich and Theoret were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
