Essex rides Ekblad to victory over Amherstburg, 2-1

Darien Ekblad had a standout game with 29 saves, and the Essex 73's beat the Amherstburg Admirals 2-1.

 

Essex was led by Philip Janikowski, who registered one goal. Janikowski scored 15:00 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Essex. Eric Shaw provided the assist.

The 73s' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Amherstburg power plays. Essex's offense operated below its season average. The 73's put an average of 5.5 pucks into the net per game. Essex forced Amherstburg goalie Arren Romeril to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Essex also got a goal from Tyler Scott as well. More assists for Essex came via Matthew Rosati and Chad Hedrick, who contributed one a piece.

The Admirals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Amherstburg could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Admirals average 3.6 goals per game.

Amherstburg was led by Blake Rutckyj, who scored the team's only goal. Rutckyj scored 1:23 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg. Steven Spada picked up the assist.

The 73's incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Romeril rejected 37 shots on goal for the Admirals. Amherstburg ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Admirals, Cody Leeming was ejected from the game.
