Wheatley blows out Dresden, 5-2

The Wheatley Sharks were firing on all cylinders against the Dresden Kings, and when the final buzzer sounded Sharks emerged with a 5-2 win.

Wheatley was led by Austin Fontaine, who registered one goal and one assist. Fontaine scored 45 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wheatley. Austin Thompson provided the assist.

The Sharks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The defensemen of Wheatley were also effective in Dresden's zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for Wheatley included Cale Phibbs, who had two and Evan Makaric and Frank Ciacelli, who each put in one. More assists for Wheatley came via Mike Reid, Jimmy Ciacelli, and Thomas Virban, who each chipped in one and Brett Bowman and Scott Florence, who contributed two a piece.

The Kings were led by David Vergeer, who grabbed one goal. Vergeer scored 1:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Derek Daly assisted on the tally. Blake Padbury also scored for Dresden. In addition, Dresden received assists from Owen Welch, Braedon Nicholson, and Macks Holmes, who each chipped in one.

Conner MacKinnon made 17 saves for the Sharks on 19 shots. Wheatley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jamie Morreau rejected 20 shots on goal for Dresden. The Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
