Essex survives Wallaceburg comeback, wins 6-4

The Essex 73s came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Wallaceburg Lakers, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Essex led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the 73s' Corey Beaulieu's scored at 19:50 in the second period to put Essex up 5-2.

The 73s forced Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Lakers found themselves short handed often, totaling 48 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Wallaceburg was helped by Justin Lindsay, who racked up one goal. Lindsay scored 9:26 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Essex. Frankie White assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg also got points from Lucais Meyskens, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wallaceburg included Trevor Waller and Justin Whitson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Mike Kindarachok, Ryan Gruszka, Jacob Theoret, and Cody Hardman, who each chipped in one.

Darien Ekblad rejected 12 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Joel Sowinski made 29 saves for the Lakers on 35 shots. Wallaceburg registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Lakers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Chovich was ejected from the game.
