Mooretown vanquishes Blenheim in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Nov 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mooretown Flags defeated the Blenheim Blades in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Blenheim's shootout goal was scored by Drew Marlatt. In addition to the clincher, Mooretown got a shootout goal from Jeff Schroeter.Brett Thompson had two goals to lead the Flags to victory. Thompson scored at 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mooretown and again while 19:48 into the third to make the score 4-4. Mooretown's offense rang up 35 shots on the Blades' net. Mooretown also got points from Schroeter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Adam Hayes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Sam McCormack, McGregor Haddon, and Sam Jasmin, who each chipped in one and Brandon Layman and Dan Lumley, who contributed two a piece. Blenheim kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Steven Taylor made 32 saves on 36 shots. The Blades were helped by Brayden Seliga, who registered one goal. Seliga scored 11:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kirk McKillop picked up the assist. Blenheim additionally got points from McKillop, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Blenheim included Derek Muzzatti and Justin Rossignol, who scored one goal each. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Mackenzie Dick, Cam Aitken, Marlatt, and James Shelton, who each chipped in one. Mooretown incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Blenheim's Eric Stewardson stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Blades incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
