Philip Janikowski had two goals to lead the Essex 73s to a 7-4 victory over the Alvinston Flyers. Janikowski's tallies came on the power play at 10:36 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Essex and 2:15 into the third to make the score 5-4 Essex.Alvinston's 11 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Flyers let up five goals while on the penalty kill. Essex stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s forced the Flyers goalie Brad Jacklin to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Essex additionally got points from Brett Clarke, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Corey Beaulieu, who also had one goal and one assist, Scott Bromley, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Daniel Slipchuck, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Essex also got a goal from Tyler Scott as well. More assists for Essex came via Jordan Ryan, who had two and Tyler Raymont, Alex Garon, Zoran Popel, and Daniel McIntyre, who each chipped in one. Alvinston's offense rang up 39 shots on Essex's net. The Flyers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 42 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. Alvinston was helped by Joe Archer, who registered one goal. Archer scored 4:12 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Essex. Jake McPhail picked up the assist. Others who scored for Alvinston included Troy Whitely, Dan Warner, and Jeremy VanDeven, who each put in one. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Karsten Berg and Chad Rainsberry, who contributed one a piece. Arren Romeril recorded 35 saves for the 73s. Essex incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flyers' Jacklin stopped 40 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Alvinston registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
