Gruszka lifts Wallaceburg over Blenheim, 5-2

The Wallaceburg Lakers relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Gruszka, who netted two goals, to beat the Blenheim Blades, 5-2.

Gruszka scored at 18:05 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wallaceburg and again while 1:40 into the third to make the score 4-2 Wallaceburg.

Wallaceburg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Lakers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wallaceburg has scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The Lakers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Frank Saputo also scored for Wallaceburg. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Evan Weidenback, who had two and Mike Brown, Trevor Waller, Jacob Theoret, and Joel Sowinski, who contributed one a piece.

Blenheim could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Blades put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Wallaceburg was unable to stop Blenheim from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blades eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Blenheim was helped by Justin Rossignol, who finished with one goal. Rossignol scored 4:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wallaceburg. Cam Aitken assisted on the tally. Blenheim also got a goal from Derek Muzzatti as well. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Dylan Muzzatti and Pete Mosher, who each chipped in one.

Joel Sowinski made 30 saves for the Lakers on 32 shots. Wallaceburg registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Blades' starting goalie, Justin Pratt, made five saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Eric Stewardson, who stopped 10 shots. Blenheim incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
