Thompson's big game bests Wheatley in 9-2 Mooretown winMooretown Rink 1 Sat, Nov 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Brett Thompson had two goals and three assists to lead the Mooretown Flags to a 9-2 victory over the Wheatley Sharks. Thompson scored at 17:30 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Mooretown and again while 12:17 into the third to make the score 9-2 Mooretown.Mooretown forced Wheatley's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 37 shots and forcing 28 saves. Everitt Omstead made 18 stops and Conner MacKinnon made 10. The Flags managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Mooretown wound up below its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flags bested their season scoring average. This season, Mooretown averages 4.7 goals per contest. Mooretown additionally got points from Caden Fleming, who also had one goal and two assists, Austin Ainsworth, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Sam Jasmin, who also racked up two goals and two assists. Mooretown also got a goal from Jeff Schroeter as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Jack Magermans, who had two and Ryan Jennings, Clay Williams, Joey Stock, and Brandon Layman, who contributed one a piece. Wheatley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. For the Sharks, Brett Babkirk was ejected from the game.
