Essex survives Amherstburg comeback, wins 3-2

The Amherstburg Admirals tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Essex 73s would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Brett Clarke put Essex up 2-0 in the second period, but Amherstburg pulled to within one on Kyler Carter's tally 1:41 into the third period.

The 73s were paced by Matthew Hebert, who racked up one goal. Hebert scored 12:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Essex. Dylan Solecki picked up the assist.

Essex stifled the Admirals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s were held below their usual level of production. Essex averages 6.0 goals per game. The 73s kept Amherstburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Klinton Kenney made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Essex also got a goal from Alex Garon as well. More assists for Essex came via Corey Beaulieu, Jordan Ryan, Daniel Slipchuck, Daniel McIntyre, and Aaron Thibert, who contributed one a piece.

The Admirals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 50 minutes in penalties during the game.

Amherstburg was helped by Chad Copeland, who tallied one goal. Copeland scored 3:26 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Dan Matoski assisted on the tally. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Tyler Lawrence, Curtis Prymack, and Brett Beattie, who each chipped in one.

Essex's Arren Romeril stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The 73s incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Admirals registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
