Mooretown survives Amherstburg comeback, wins 7-5

The Mooretown Flags, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Mooretown and clinched a 7-5 victory.

The Flags led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Mooretown's Chad Beauchamp's scored at 7:13 in the second period to put the Flags up 5-1.

Dan Lumley had one goal and two assists to lead Mooretown. Lumley scored on the power play 8:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mooretown. The Flags had gotten the advantage when the Amherstburg Admirals' Curtis Prymack was sent off for abuse of officials. Adam Hayes assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, Amherstburg was sparked by Steven Spada, who registered two goals and one assist. Spada scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. The Admirals had taken the advantage when Mooretown's Ryan Jennings got sent off for hooking. Dan Matoski picked up the assist. Spada's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Mooretown with 5:44 left in the second period. Amherstburg had gained a power play chance when Hayes was whistled for high sticking. Ryan Jones provided the assist.

The Flags forced the Admirals' goalies to work in net, totaling 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Klinton Kenney made 12 stops and Chris Wallace made 20. Mooretown bested its season scoring average. The Flags average 4.6 goals per game. Team could not crack Amherstburg's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Mooretown struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 20 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Mooretown additionally got points from Beauchamp, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Austin Ainsworth, who also had one goal and one assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Spencer Bronzi as well. More assists for Mooretown came via McGregor Haddon, who had three and Clay Williams, Brandon Layman, David Addley, and Sam Jasmin, who contributed one a piece.

The Admirals kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 39 saves on 44 shots. Amherstburg got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. The Admirals' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Amherstburg finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Amherstburg also got points from Matoski, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Tyler Lawrence also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Kyler Carter, who had one and Chad Copeland, who had two.

The Admirals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Prymack was ejected from the game.
