Jasmin's goals lift Mooretown to 8-5 victory over Wallaceburg

The Mooretown Flags relied on the scoring touch of Sam Jasmin, who netted two goals, to beat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 8-5.

Jasmin scored at 3:21 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Mooretown and again while 3:44 into the third to make the score 6-3 Mooretown.

Mooretown forced Wallaceburg's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 54 shots and forcing 46 saves. Matt Badour made 35 stops and Wesley Hughson made 11. The Flags bested their season scoring average. This season, Mooretown averages 4.4 goals per contest. The Flags' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Mooretown also got points from Chad Beauchamp, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brandon Layman, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Dan Lumley, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mooretown included Caden Fleming, who had one and Matt Brandon, who had two. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Jordan McBeath, Ryan Jennings, Clay Williams, McGregor Haddon, and Alec Segers, who contributed one a piece and Jeff Schroeter and Austin Ainsworth, who each chipped in two.

The Lakers forced Mooretown goalie Steven Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Wallaceburg's goal total was higher than its season average. The Lakers have scored at the pace of 2.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Wallaceburg was helped by Justin Lindsay, who grabbed one goal. Lindsay scored 16:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Frankie White picked up the assist. Wallaceburg additionally got points from White, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Ryan Gruszka, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Justin Whitson, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Lucais Meyskens, who had two and Mike Kindarachok and DJ Sapone, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor recorded 47 saves for the Flags. Mooretown incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Schroeter was ejected from the game. The Lakers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
