Early goals doom Alvinston, falls to Essex, 8-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Alvinston Flyers, which could not recover and fell to the Essex 73s, 8-1.

Jordan Ryan was all over the ice for Essex, as he finished with four goals in the win. Ryan got on the scoresheet 6:47 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:57 into the first, at 2:24 into the second, and at 14:45 into the third.

Alvinston was stymied by the 73s netminder Jacob Kment, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Kment certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.5 entering the contest.

Essex forced the Flyers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Brett Avery made 10 stops and Brad Jacklin made 26. The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Essex also got points from Tyler Scott, who also registered one goal and two assists, Colin DeLaet, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Aaron Thibert, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Corey Beaulieu also scored for Essex. More assists for Essex came via Matthew Rosati, Dallas Pereira, and Matthew Hebert, who contributed one a piece and Philip Janikowski and Daniel McIntyre, who each chipped in two.

Alvinston was held below its usual level of production. The Flyers put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game.

Alvinston also got a goal from Chad Vaneyk as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Clint Rose, who had one.

Essex incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Alvinston incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
