Wheatley downs Amherstburg in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Libro Centre Sun, Nov 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Brett Babkirk gave the Wheatley Sharks a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Amherstburg Admirals when he scored 3:40 into the extra period. Babkirk had two goals to lead Wheatley to victory. The Sharks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Amherstburg to score on any of its three power plays. The Admirals were unable to stop Wheatley from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sharks eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Ryan Zsebok also scored for Wheatley. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Sebastian Kanally, who had two and Mike Reid, Austin Thompson, and Scott Florence, who contributed one a piece. Amherstburg forced Wheatley goalie Conner MacKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Admirals were helped by Colin Hamilton, who tallied one goal. Hamilton scored 3:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Daniel Bachynsky picked up the assist. Amherstburg also got a goal from Steven Spada as well. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Josh Laframboise, who had one. Conner MacKinnon made 34 saves for the Sharks on 36 shots. Wheatley totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Sharks, Brett Bowman and Austin Fontaine were ejected from the contest. Klinton Kenney recorded 36 saves for Amherstburg. The Admirals ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Amherstburg, Thomas Eady was ejected from the game.
