Belle River uses early goal to top Mooretown, 2-1

Guy Levesque gave the Belle River Canadiens the lead in the first period, and the Mooretown Flags was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Levesque provided Belle River with the game-winning tally when he scored 2:39 into the the first period. Zack Bedard picked up the assist.

The Canadiens' Justus Mancuso was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Mancuso will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Belle River was paced by Hunter Corp, who finished with one goal. Corp scored 3:21 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Belle River. Brian Johnson assisted on the tally.

The Canadiens managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Belle River finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Canadiens could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Belle River puts an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game. The Canadiens forced Mooretown goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Tyler Turner, who had one.

The Flags' offense operated below they season average. Mooretown averages 4.2 goals per game. The Flags' offense rang up 32 shots on Belle River's net.

Mooretown was led by Sam McCormack, who scored the team's only goal. McCormack scored on the power play 5:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Belle River. The Flags had gained a power play chance when Johnson was whistled for cross checking. Matt Brandon picked up the assist.

The Canadiens registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Mooretown's Johnson stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Flags incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
