Amherstburg beats Wallaceburg 6-5 after comeback scareWalpole Island Complex Sat, Nov 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wallaceburg Lakers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Amherstburg Admirals held on for a 6-5 victory. A goal by Thomas Eady put Amherstburg up 6-4 in the third period, but Wallaceburg pulled to within one on Ryan Gruszka's tally 10:21 into the third period. In a losing effort, the Lakers were paced by Gruszka, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Gruszka scored the first of his two goals at 12:26 into the second period to make the score 4-4. Kama Rogers APM picked up the assist. Gruszka's next tally made the score 6-5 Amherstburg with 9:39 left in the third period. Wallaceburg had gained a power play chance when Kyle Morand was whistled for roughing. Trevor Waller assisted on the tally. The Admirals racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. Amherstburg had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Admirals' offense rang up 41 shots on the Lakers' net. Amherstburg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Wallaceburg made the Admirals' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots and forcing 26 saves. Chris Wallace made 20 stops and Klinton Kenney made six. The Lakers bested their season scoring average. This season, Wallaceburg averages 2.1 goals per contest. Team could not crack Amherstburg's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Cody Hardman, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Justin Whitson as well.
