Essex rolls over Wheatley, 6-2

The Essex 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Wheatley Sharks, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with a 6-2 win.

Corey Beaulieu had a great game for Essex, netting two goals. Beaulieu's tallies came at 9:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and 1:37 into the second to make the score 3-0 Essex.

Wheatley was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Essex eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Essex also got points from Aaron Thibert, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Essex included Eric Shaw, Philip Janikowski, and Zoran Popel, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Alex Garon, who had two and Matthew Rosati, Scott Bromley, Daniel Slipchuck, and Daniel McIntyre, who contributed one a piece.

The Sharks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 73s to score on any of their three power plays.

Arren Romeril recorded 24 saves for Essex. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Conner MacKinnon rejected 37 shots on goal for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
