Alvinston rides Avery to victory over Wheatley, 4-1Brooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Nov 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alvinston Flyers relied on the sparkling performance of Brett Avery in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Wheatley Sharks. Alvinston was led by Tyler Kettler, who tallied one goal. Kettler scored 6:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alvinston. Wheatley was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Alvinston eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Alvinston additionally got points from Troy Whitely, who also registered one goal and one assist and Sam Vokes, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Lightfoot also scored for Alvinston. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Sam MacGee, Dan Warner, and Campbell Carter, who each chipped in one. The Sharks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their three power plays. Wheatley's offense operated below it season average. The Sharks put an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. Wheatley's offense rang up 38 shots on Alvinston's net. The Sharks were led by Austin Thompson, who scored the team's only goal. Thompson scored 1:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheatley. Mike Reid provided the assist. The Flyers' Avery stopped 37 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Alvinston incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Everitt Omstead made 36 saves for Wheatley on 40 shots. The Sharks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
