Makaric lifts Belle River over Wheatley, 9-3

Behind a great game by Evan Makaric, who had two goals, the Belle River Canadiens defeated the Wheatley Sharks, 9-3.

Makaric found the back of the net on the power play 11:51 into the second period to make the score 3-3 and again while 17:20 into the second to make the score 5-3 Belle River.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:23 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Belle River forced Sharks' goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 33 shots and forcing 24 saves. Conner MacKinnon made 20 stops and Everitt Omstead made four. The Canadiens outdid their season average for goals scored. Belle River averages 5.3 goals per game. The Canadiens took advantage of Wheatley's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. The defensemen of Belle River were also effective in the Sharks' zone, and came away with three goals.

Belle River additionally got points from Branden Larocque, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Tyler Snyder, who also had three goals and three assists, James Shelton, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Kody Gagnon, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Brian Johnson, who had one and Mike Ditty, who had four.

Wheatley was helped by Frank Ciacelli, who racked up one goal. Ciacelli scored 5:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wheatley. Sebastian Kanally also scored for Wheatley. More assists for Wheatley came via Cale Phibbs and Jon Woelk, who contributed one a piece.

Adam Leboeuf recorded 22 saves for the Canadiens. Belle River ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Canadiens ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and JJ Percy was ejected from the game. The Sharks totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Wheatley, Lucas Raffoul was ejected from the game.
