Blenheim completes comeback, beats Dresden, 5-4Blenheim Memorial Arena Sun, Oct 27, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Dresden Kings could not hold down the Blenheim Blades, and Blades erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-4 win. Blenheim never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Blades fell behind 4-1 after a goal by Dresden's Mike Myers at 7:35 in the second period. Blenheim knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kirk McKillop at 13:21 in the third period. The Blades got the game winner at 19:10 in the third period on a goal by McKillop. Drew Marlatt had two goals and three assists to lead Blenheim. Marlatt scored the first of his two goals at 16:54 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Dresden. Cam Aitken assisted on the tally. Marlatt's next tally made the score 4-3 Dresden with 7:27 left in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Blades' offense rang up 44 shots on the Kings' net. Blenheim additionally got points from McKillop, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Aitken, who also registered two goals and two assists. Dresden made Blenheim's netminders to work all game long, racking up 40 shots and forcing 36 saves. Eric Stewardson made 27 stops and Justin Pratt made nine. The Kings were helped by Alex Ritchie, who had one goal. Ritchie scored 5:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden. Myers picked up the assist. Dresden also got points from Myers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Taylor Sisson also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Jay Piett, Derrik VanEvery, Jesse Allen, and Macks Holmes, who contributed one a piece. The Blades totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Blenheim, Pete Mosher was ejected from the game. Brent Paxton made 39 saves for Dresden on 44 shots. The Kings totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Daly was ejected from the game.
