Amherstburg holds on for 4-3 win against Blenheim

The Blenheim Blades tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Amherstburg Admirals would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Amherstburg made the score 4-2 on a goal by Brett Beattie at 18:08 in the second period, and Blenheim got as close as 4-3 when Zack Horvath scored 1:04 into the third period.

Kyler Carter had two goals to lead the Admirals to victory. Carter scored on the power play at 18:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg and again while 3:58 into the second to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg.

Amherstburg also got a goal from Chad Copeland as well. More assists for Amherstburg came via Kyle Morand, Thomas Eady, and Blake Rutckyj, who each chipped in one and Dan Matoski and Curtis Prymack, who contributed two a piece.

The Blades were held below their usual level of production. Blenheim averages 5.1 goals per game. The Blades' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Blenheim finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Kirk McKillop also scored for Blenheim. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Nolan Vandenboorn, Ryan Frizzell, Dylan Bonner, and Corbin Hagerman, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg's Klinton Kenney stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Admirals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Eric Stewardson made 26 saves for the Blades on 30 shots. Blenheim registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Team's Justin Rossignol and Brayden Seliga were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
