Essex falls to Blenheim in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Essex Centre Sports Complex Tue, Oct 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Corbin Hagerman gave the Blenheim Blades a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Essex 73s when he scored 53 seconds into the extra period. Blenheim's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. The Blades were led by Jordan Durston, who had two goals. Durston scored the first of his two goals at 18:24 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Blenheim. Pete Mosher picked up the assist. Durston's next tally made the score 4-4 with 1:59 left in the third period. Austin Bentley assisted on the tally. Blenheim also got a goal from Cam Aitken as well. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Justin Rossignol, who had two and Dylan Muzzatti, Ryan Frizzell, Tyler Boughner, and Justin Pratt, who each chipped in one. Essex was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The 73s had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Essex's offense rang up 42 shots on Blenheim's net. The 73s' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Essex is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. The 73s were helped by Scott Bromley, who finished with two goals and one assist. Bromley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:09 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Essex had gained a power play chance when Hagerman was whistled for cross checking. Corey Beaulieu picked up the assist. Bromley's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Essex with 2:31 left in the third period. Beaulieu assisted on the tally. Essex also got points from Beaulieu, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Matthew Hebert also scored for Essex. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Brett Clarke, Tyler Raymont, Jordan Ryan, Chad Hedrick, and Aaron Thibert, who contributed one a piece. Pratt rejected 38 shots on goal for the Blades. Blenheim incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Durston was ejected from the game. Arren Romeril recorded 20 saves for the 73s. Essex registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the 73s, Daniel McIntyre was ejected from the game.
