Wheatley completes comeback, beats Mooretown, 6-5Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Oct 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mooretown Flags could not hold down the Wheatley Sharks, and Sharks erased a four-goal deficit en route to a 6-5 win. Wheatley let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a four hole to pick up the win. The Sharks took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Eric Rivard at 2:35 in the first period. Wheatley found itself down 5-1 after Mooretown's Brett Thompson put the puck home at 10:16 in the second period. After knotting things up at 5-5 on a goal by Lucas Raffoul at 19:23 in the second, the Sharks got the game-winner from Rivard at 19:57 in the second period. Rivard was all over the ice for Wheatley, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. The Sharks forced the Flags' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 47 shots and forcing 41 saves. Steven Taylor made 29 stops and Brandon Johnson made 12. Wheatley managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. The Sharks wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Wheatley additionally got points from Brendon Anger, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Jon Woelk, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Mike Reid also scored for Wheatley. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Dylan Impens, who had two and Zach Wilson, Devin Shannon, Brett Bowman, and Austin Fontaine, who contributed one a piece. Mooretown's offense rang up 34 shots on Wheatley's net. The Flags were led by McGregor Haddon, who had two goals and one assist. Haddon scored the first of his two goals at 4:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chad Beauchamp picked up the assist. Haddon's next tally made the score 3-1 Mooretown with 3:55 left in the first period. Dan Lumley provided the assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Matt Brandon as well. More assists for Mooretown came via Caden Fleming, who had one. The Sharks' Conner MacKinnon stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Wheatley registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Mooretown incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For the Flags, Jordan McBeath was ejected from the game.
