Lightfoot lifts Alvinston over Blenheim, 6-1

Dylan Lightfoot had two goals to lead the Alvinston Flyers to a 6-1 victory over the Blenheim Blades.

Lightfoot found the back of the net on the power play 5:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston and again while 51 seconds into the second to make the score 4-0 Alvinston.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:22 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Alvinston forced Blenheim's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Eric Stewardson made 18 stops and Justin Pratt made 19. The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blades to score on any of their three power plays. Alvinston surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Flyers have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Alvinston also got points from Sam Vokes, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Troy Whitely, who had one and Joe Archer, who had two. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Jake McPhail, who had two and Tyler Kettler, Dan Warner, and Karsten Berg, who contributed one a piece.

Blenheim's offense operated below it season average. The Blades put an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game.

Dylan Muzzatti also scored for Blenheim. More assists for Blenheim came via Cam Aitken and Drew Marlatt, who each chipped in one.

Brett Avery made 24 saves for Alvinston on 25 shots. The Flyers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Alvinston, McPhail was ejected from the game. Blenheim ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kirk McKillop was ejected from the game.
