Wheatley's Woelk deadly on offense in 7-3 win against WallaceburgWallaceburg Memorial Arena Wed, Oct 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Jon Woelk had four goals to lead the Wheatley Sharks to a 7-3 victory over the Wallaceburg Lakers. Woelk's first goal came 5:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:02 into the first, at 7:48 into the third, and at 14:06 into the third.Wallaceburg's power play was ineffective against Wheatley's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Lakers were unable to stop the Sharks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wheatley eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Sharks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Wheatley's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Sharks finished with 28 penalty minutes. Zach Wilson also scored for Wheatley. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Dylan Impens, who had three, Travis Campbell, Austin Thompson, Cale Phibbs, and Brendon Anger, who each chipped in one, and Lucas Raffoul, Eric Rivard, and Antonio Ciampa, who contributed two a piece. Wallaceburg was led by Evan Weidenback, who racked up two goals. Weidenback scored the first of his two goals at 28 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Ryan Gruszka picked up the assist. Weidenback's next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:00 left in the first period. The Lakers had gained a power play chance when Brett Bowman was whistled for hooking. DJ Sapone assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Justin Lindsay as well. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Lucais Meyskens and Frankie White, who each chipped in one. Everitt Omstead made 26 saves for Wheatley on 29 shots. The Sharks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Matt Badour rejected 35 shots on goal for Wallaceburg. The Lakers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
